Does My Business Need a Credit Card Reader?

If you run a business, you need to make things as convenient as possible for your customers. After all, if you waste their time, then they won’t want to come back to your store. With this in mind, think of all the people that carry around credit cards and how much money business you will lose without a card reader.

The Customer’s Perspective

Imagine if you were the customer. You walk into the store, pick up some avocados so that you can make guacamole that night. You find some ripe avocados, you put them in a bag and you walk up to the register. The cashier greets you, he or she weighs the avocados and you hand over your credit card. The cashier then says that the store only takes cash.

What would you do in this situation? You would probably leave the avocados and go to a different store. If you don’t have cash and you can’t use your credit card, then how would you pay for the food? This would turn you away from the store forever. If you want to provide your customers convenience, then you need to have a credit card reader.

It Looks Unprofessional

Even if your store takes credit card but charges it online, people may not want to return to your store. First off, typing out their credit card information will take up more of their time. Secondly, they would worry about you stealing their credit card information. Finally, it comes across as unprofessional.

After all, if other stores can use readers for credit cards, why can’t your store do the same? This makes it seem like you don’t care about the customer’s time and that they may view your store as “sketchy”. Make sure that you use a reader so that you can save time and show your customers your professionalism.

Prevent Mistakes

Imagine if you were an employee who had to hand-type all the credit card information into a computer just to charge someone for a product. You would quickly get annoyed and bored with the process. On top of this, you would also make mistakes since credit cards contain 16 numbers, names, dates and CVC codes that you have to input perfectly.

If you make one mistake during this process, the charge won’t go through and you have to double-check all of the information again. This increases the length of the process while shortening the patience of the customer. Just get a reader and save yourself and your customers from the hassle.

If you get a reader for credit cards, you can make things easier for your customers, avoid annoying them and also prevent unnecessary mistakes from happening. Why not use the device that will save you time and effort? Make sure to pick one up if you don’t have one already, because you’re not going to overcome this problem by sitting around.
