Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has extended his congratulations to Moon Jae-in for winning South Korea’s presidential election.
In a message on Saturday, Rouhani expressed hope that Tehran and Seoul would witness further expansion of relations during Moon’s tenure.
The Iranian president also wished his South Korean counterpart and nation success and prosperity.
Moon was sworn in as president of South Korea on Wednesday, a day after he was declared the winner of the election.
South Korea’s election body said that Moon had gathered 41 percent of the votes.

The new president said in his inauguration speech that he would “do everything I can to build peace on the Korean Peninsula.”
The South’s 19th president — the son of refugees from North Korea — had during his campaign advocated for a combination of negotiations and economic cooperation alongside military and security measures in dealing with the North.
